A world that is not as it should be
The Bible presents suffering, injustice and death as signs of a creation that has become disordered. Human beings have rejected God's rule, and our choices harm other people, ourselves and the world we share. Some suffering is caused directly by cruelty or neglect; some comes through illness, disaster and mortality.
This explanation does not tell us why one particular tragedy was permitted. The Bible often allows the sufferer to ask “Why?” without receiving a complete account. The Psalms include grief, protest and confusion as well as trust.

God enters suffering
Christianity's central image is not a distant God observing pain. It is Jesus on a cross. Christians believe God entered human suffering, experienced injustice and death, and carried human sin. The resurrection declares that suffering and death are real enemies—but not final ones.
This does not remove today's pain. It offers God's presence within it and a future in which evil is judged, creation is restored and tears do not last forever.
A response as well as a question
Christian hope calls people to resist suffering now: comfort the grieving, protect the vulnerable, pursue justice and carry one another's burdens. Faith is not an excuse to look away. It is a reason to love when love is costly.
