Understand the invitation
Christianity teaches that God created and loves us, but that every person has sinned and become separated from Him. We cannot repair that separation through good behaviour alone. Jesus lived without sin, died for human sin and rose from death. Forgiveness and reconciliation are offered through Him.
Faith means more than accepting facts about Jesus. It means placing your trust in Him—depending on what He has done rather than presenting your own goodness as the reason God should accept you.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”Romans 10:13
Speak honestly to God
There is no special formula that forces God to respond. You can pray in your own words: acknowledge your sin, ask for forgiveness, tell Jesus that you want to trust and follow Him, and ask for help to change.
The sincerity of the response matters more than polished language. Questions and incomplete understanding do not prevent honesty. You can ask God to meet you within what you genuinely know and do not know.
Begin following Jesus
Read one of the Gospels, beginning perhaps with John. Look for a healthy church that teaches the Bible, keeps Jesus central and allows sincere questions. Speak with a trustworthy Christian and consider baptism as Jesus instructed His followers.
Becoming a Christian is a beginning. Growth takes time, and it happens through prayer, Scripture, Christian community, repentance and learning to love God and neighbour in practical life.
